Sorry For The Lack Of Posts Today

I apologize, it's been a bad day today for me.  A sweet teen girl I follow that has leukemia was dealt a major blow, and after reading the update my heart has been too heavy to post.  Then, my oldest daughter called with the news that for some reason her stalker/harrasser who was supposed to be jailed until his sentencing hearing tomorrow, was released yesterday and supposed to return for the hearing tomorrow morning.  He was to go straight to the place to have his ankle monitoring device turned back on to assure he's nowhere near her residence, but failed to do so.  Therefore the police has issued a warrant for his arrest.  Unfortunately though, when they went to his residence on file, someone else lives there.  When they tried to call the number he has listed, the number has been disconnected.  I'm betting he doesn't show up for his sentencing hearing tomorrow...what do you bet?  I'm worried about the safety of my daughter.  So again, I apologize that I didn't update any deals today.  Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day all around.

Have You Grabbed Any After Holiday Deals?

My daughter begged us to take her shopping this morning, so we went.  I had to laugh, because she ended up not spending a penny and we were the ones lugging in bags.  I was able to use some coupons, matched up with some clearance sales to get some good deals.

My favorite deal was a 48-count box of special edition Holiday K-Cups.  Originally $24.99 and it was on clearance for $12.49 at Walmart.

Old Spice gift sets were on clearance for $2.50 each and I had a coupon to get $1/2 Old Spice deodorants.  Since a stick of deodorant was in the gift set, the coupon worked.  So I paid $4 total for 2 gift sets.  -$2 each was a decent price. 

I had a coupon for $2 off any Olay body wash and they had an Olay gift set on clearance.  It had a bottle body wash, a bottle of lotion, a sample of Pantene 2-1 conditioner and a pair of aloe infused socks in it.  It was on clearance for $5, so with the coupon I paid $3 for it. 

They had a Herbal Essence gift set marked down to $5.  It had a bottle of shampoo, a bottle of conditioner, a small tube of hair gel and a small bottle of Secret Scent Expressions body spray in it.  I had a coupon to buy Herbal Essence shampoo and get a hair finishing product free so I also picked up a large jar of Tousle Me Softly Finishing Cream.

Medium sized jar candles were marked down to $1.50 each and anyone who knows me knows that I'm a total candle freak.  I got one in Cinnamon, one in Vanilla Cookie and one in Cranberry.

I also picked hubby up a Gillette ProGlide razor.  This wasn't a great deal, but it was needed so I got it anyway.  No sale price on them, but I had a $4/1 coupon so I paid $4.97 for it.

I have another set of coupon inserts (which all came out of today's P&G brandsaver Sunday paper insert, btw) that I'm saving to see if anything is left when prices go to 75% off.

TWO MMA Title Fights!

Oh, I'm so excited as only a momma can be!  You might remember that last month my son was to have his first shot at a title, but unfortunately his opponent developed a staph infection in his leg and wasn't cleared to fight.  Now, he's going to have two title fights in two months!  Both were just set up tonight. 

The first one, I don't have a lot of information about yet.  All I know is that it'll be January 14th, somewhere in Kentucky.  See...I told ya I don't have much information about it. ;)

The second one will be February 19th in Tiffin, OH and he'll be fighting a guy named Luis Vasquez.  This fight is very close to home for me.  Cody will have  huge outpouring of support from family and friends in the area.

The last time Cody fought in Kentucky, you may remember that I wasn't able to go and it about killed me.  This time, I'll definately be there!  Cody is using my car to get there, and has graciously offered me a ride...yep in my own car...to go with him! LOL 

I'm SO excited for the next two months!  Go get 'em Cody!  I want to see you holding two belts above your head!  -I love photography, and this will be a great photo opp! :)

The Pioneer Woman's Homemade Cinnamon Rolls

So I've read all the hoopla about how wonderful these rolls are, but I've never made them.  I'm going to attempt a batch today for the first time.  I'm excited and can just visualize the warm, gooey, cinnamony (cinnamony..is that even a word? I guess it is now!) goodness of them when they come out of the oven steaming hot. 

I have to admit, I'm nervous about making them.  I'm nervous about using the yeast.  I go from the visions of goodness described above to visions of flat, hard, flying disc's that I could use to take out an intruder!  I'm going to take a deep breath though, and give it a shot.

PCOS

Are you asking yourself "What's PCOS?"? A lot of people have never heard of it. A lot of people have heard of it, but doesn't understand the implications of the syndrome. What harm can come from some cysts on the ovaries, right? Wrong.

PCOS stands for Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome. Now, one would think that because the words "cystic" and "ovary" are in the name that everyone who has this syndrome would have cysts on their ovaries, right? Wrong again. Women with this syndrome can have cysts on their ovary or ovaries, but not all do.

PCOS is a complex syndrome, that effects many different things in the body. It can lead to life threatening complications. Most, but again not all, women with PCOS also have insulin resistance. This can lead to full blown diabetes. Therefore, the person must follow a low glycemic index diet.

PCOS can lead to heart problems and heart disease. With PCOS, more male hormones are being produced in the body than female hormones. In turn, this affects the whole hormone system. A person can display a whole host of symptoms or just a few. Some of these symtoms can be:
-Stomach Pain
-Nausea
-Mood Swings
-Depression
-Insulin Resistance
-Fatigue
-Excessive Body Hair
-Acne
-Headaches
-Infertility
-Male Patterned Baldness
-Metabolic Syndrome (the body has trouble regulating insulin)
-Patches of thickened brown skin
-Oily skin or dandruff
-Obesity
-I've also read it can lead to uterine and/or ovarian cancer
..and probably more. That's why PCOS is classified as a syndrome..because so many different things are affected.

PCOS is the number one cause of female infertility in the United States. With PCOS, a woman doesn't necessarily ovulate each month as they should. They may not have regular periods. According to: http://www.womenshealth.gov/faq/polycystic-ovary-syndrome.cfm PCOS affects between 1-10 to 1-20 women of childbearing age. As many as 5 million women in the United States may be affected and it can occur in girls as young as 11 years old.

If pregnancy is achieved, the pregnancy is at a higher risk of complications. Risk of pre-natal death, or the baby needing NICU time is higher for the babies of mothers that have PCOS.

My youngest daughter, turned 15 the end of September. The beginning of November, after a brigade of tests, she was diagnosed with PCOS. Relieved that we finally had a diagnosis for her symptoms, we thought she'd start some medicine that would make her feel better. Oh how wrong we were.

See, there's no cure for PCOS. There's not even a concrete treatment plan. There isn't much funding out there for the study of PCOS and/or clinical trials so that a cure can be found or a concrete and effective universal treatment plan can be made. My daughter is still suffering. She's frequently in pain. She frequently feels sick to her stomach. She absolutely loves show choir. Just loves to perform for people, yet after a show she's so wiped out she comes home and goes straight to sleep. Sometimes too tired to do anything the next day.

Since the diagnosis, she's become more withdrawn and sad. She's afraid to eat, because she doesn't want to gain weight and become obese. If she doesn't eat, then her blood sugar isn't stabilized and she's sick and dizzy. Following a low glycemic index diet isn't fun for a 15 year old. She doesn't like much of the food that she can eat. Getting her to eat, and to eat the right foods is a constant battle I fight every single day.

Most little girls dream of their wedding day, and of someday becoming a mom. My daughter feels this dream has been ripped away from her. She knows that for her to become a mom may not be very easy. She struggles with wondering if men will be turned off of marrying her because of her condition. A little dramatic? Maybe. It's still how she feels, and her feelings deserve to be validated.

As a mom, watching my 15 year old daughter struggle with this syndrome hurts me. My heart breaks for the way this syndrome has made her think of herself. My heart breaks for each day that she doesn't feel good. I just want to scoop her up and hug her, and tell her everything will be ok. The reality is though, that I don't know how this will effect her life. I don't know that she won't develop a life threatening complication. I don't know if she'll ever become a mother.



I don't want to leave you with the image in your mind that my daughter is an overweight, acne-ridden, balding, sad girl because she isn't. She's a beautiful young lady who like the slogan says..will "Fight Like A Girl". And we all know how hard a girl can hit, right?! Here she is this past fall, before her homecoming dance.

ETA: I'm in no way a medical professional of any kind and my post is written from the things my daughter has experienced and that I've found from extensive reading and researching this condition.

2010 Holiday Concert

If you've read the introductory posts about my children, you may remember that my youngest daughter is in show choir.  They had they're Holiday concert last night.  I just love watching these kids perform.  They work so hard and put their all into each and every show. 

Once Courtney got home from school, it was a rushed busy night.  She had to practice her solo, everyone had to get ready, she'd lost so much weight we had to go to my mom's to have her dress fixed so it wouldn't fall off her, then off to the concert!  I get so giddy on performance nights.  Just think, a real live "Glee" performance!!

For the first time ever (and she does a solo at almost every show), Courtney had a couple missteps in her solo.  She was absolutely mortified, but held it together until she walked away.  Then the tears of embarrassment and humiliation came.  But, as with any true performer, the show must go on!  She pulled it back together and walked out with her group to give us all a great night of song and dance.
